walk thru 1Fifth and sixth graders at Rancho Encinitas Academy participated in Walk Through the Amercian Revolution, an interactive retelling of our nation’s beginnings.  The event was hosted by California Weekly Explorer, producers of various “Walk Through” presentations.

Through the use of games, music, and storytelling, history “comes alive” as students compete in teams and answer questions in hopes of gaining points.  During the entire presentation, students are dressed in Revolutionary era costumes, which adds to the overall experience.  Students explore the famous events, historical figures, and relevant vocabulary of this pivotal point in America’s history. Through dramatic activities, students “become” famous men and women of the American Revolution. Flags, maps, re-enactments, music, and games help students explore and understand the importance of American liberty and patriotism.

What exactly is a walk through?  A Walk Through is an engaging and interactive educational presentation of standards-basedwalk thru 3 history curriculum through literacy and the arts.  The 2 ½ hour experience can be considered an “in-school field trip.”  The program is facilitated by an animated and trained presenter who guides  students through historical events using dynamic, kid-friendly stories and activities.  Games, music, and dramatic activities encourage participation and comprehension of the curriculum.  In teams, students compete in a friendly contest to earn points.  Points are awarded mainly for the students’ presentations of pre-assigned cards.  The Expert Word Cards allow students the chance to become an “expert” on vocabulary pertaining to curriculum.  Student may also be assigned Character Cards in which they dramatically portray important historical figures.  The winning team members each receive a first-place certificate, and each student from the other teams are awarded a special Walk Through participation certificate.  Thank you to all the families who attended and helped make this experience extra special for our students!
