Each year, the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Rancho Santa Fe Security, hosts a Salute to Education awards ceremony.  Government Representatives, City Council, the Chamber Board and School Officials attend the event to help present plaques, proclamations and gifts from local businesses to students and teachers from local schools for their outstanding efforts during the 2013-2014 school year.  REA/Edison is proud of this year’s award recipients, Marna Temple, Jack O’Connor and Shannon Baker.

Marna Temple is one of those talented teachers you love to hear about. She is always good-natured and encourages her children to do their best. She gives them lots of praise, she works late and is often here on weekends. She has great communication with parents and she brings a phenomenal energy to her classroom, always looking for ways to make learning fun. She has created an environment in her classroom that would excite any child, including a terrarium for 2 tortoises and many art displays. She is an excellent collaborator, always working with her peers to produce the best possible solutions. We are very happy she has been selected as our teacher of the year.

Happy Students of the Year and Teacher of the Year

Jack O’Connor came to Edison Academy as a 7thgrader who had struggled in other school settings. He is an extremely intelligent and kind young man, who has a great sense of humor. His classmates and teachers adore him! In his free time he writes science fiction novels, and maintains a blog of short stories he creates. Jack enjoys playing guitar, photography, and spending time with his family, friends, and three cats. As a student, Jack has many  strengths. He consistently puts forth his best effort, and has made tremendous growth at Edison Academy. His academic progress in all curricular areas, excellent citizenship,  creative talents as a guitarist, photographer and writer, along with his personal accomplishments in regards to increased self-esteem have earned him the honor of Edison Academy’s Student of the Year.

Shannon Baker is proudly recognized as REA’s student of the year because she is exceptional in many ways. She is a remarkable role model, a true friend to others, and a diligent student. Her humor and phenomenal smile brighten any room, and she is always one to help and encourage. Shannon has also shown that she has the ability to overcome obstacles in life, and has grown into a beautiful and confident young lady. We wish her luck at SDA next year, and know she has an amazing future ahead of her!
